“This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” (Romans 13: 6-8)
There is a ‘key’ phrase smack dab in the middle of this verse that brings about focus for me. Do you see this?:” who give their full time to governing”? Who among those we’ve elected give their FULL TIME to governing? Isn’t there a majority spending most of their time demanding political pork-barrel? Is that what God intends? I think not! It reminds me of my conversation, years ago, with a former school administrator. He and I had a running skirmish over this management skills and motivation. He was much more interested in teachers’ total loyalty with never a “Why or Why Not?”. He was constantly accusing me of insubordination…and he was right. Just prior to his succumbing to cancer, I visited with him. “You were one of my best teachers, Jim, but I couldn’t break you”! I simply couldn’t determine the difference of his definition of “Co-operation” and “Brown-nosing”. I believe, in education, SERVICE goes two ways. EGO must never enter into a classroom. Never! It should never enter into governmental service, either.
And that’s what I get from My Box of Chocolates. AMEN
