“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Easter Egg Hunts are great fun for children, but it’s much more than that, donchaknow. Isaiah prophesied many years before Christ was born. This scripture and much more in that same book, make up the entire composition by Handel entitled, “The Messiah”. You may have heard of it. I doubt that fact if you are under 50. We just don’t seem to have much of God’s Word…nor much of God anymore, except when cursing. Take a moment and compare a bunch of colored eggs to this:
“Christ was stripped of his clothing, taken and beaten unmercifully; had a crown of two-inch thorns jammed into his scalp; forced to carry a massive wooden cross a mile or so up a hill; forcibly laid on that cross while Roman soldiers hammered spikes through his wrists and crossed ankles; raised and slammed into deep hole on a hill called “Golgotha”, just outside Jerusalem. He and two thieves hanged there for over six hours. Six hours of torturous attempt to take a breath as his weight pulled against the spikes in his wrists. When he asked for water, they gave him a sponge with vinegar! After vocal abuse by a crowd and even from the two on either side, one of the thieves admonished the other and asked, “Teacher, remember me when you enter your kingdom”. Even with all that abuse and massive pain, Jesus looked at the man and said, “Today, you will be with me in Paradise.” As the time wore on and he refused to die, soldiers ran a spear into his side and laughed as the blood and water flowed down. (That blood and water is the saving miracle of God’s Gift to all who believe). Finally, as his mother and family members watched, Jesus Christ looked to Heaven and said, “It is Finished!” And the Son of God gave up his spirit for all sinners everywhere. But, the story continues today. That same man walked out of a tomb, ministered to hundreds and was lifted, bodily, to the right hand of God, the Father. He is coming again for his church. I have a membership, do You?”
So, you see it’s much more than an Egg Hunt. It’s the Gift of Eternal Life for all who believe and accept the Gift of Salvation and a place at God’s Family Table, forever.
And that’s what I get from My Box of Chocolates. HE IS RISEN! AMEN
