I copied this off Laura Story’s posting. It was a direct hit! I’ve lead this great hymn as an Invitation hundreds of times over the past decades and until Laura posted this I had not considered just how hypocritical I had been. Perhaps you have also sung this great hymn American art teacher and musician Judson W. Van DeVenter, who subsequently became a music minister and evangelist. It was put to music by Winfield S. Weeden, and published in 1896, and recall the very first words of the first verse, “All to Jesus, I surrender, All to HIM I freely give….OUCH! There’s not much of me left now. (Well, that too is untrue, since there’s a lot more girth and flab in place in my recliner) But. there’s a bunch more I can do for Jesus and, by HIS MIGHT, I totally cry, “Calf Rope!”
And, that’s what I get from MY box of chocolates. AMEN
