The Quarter Horseman

KRAY-am was owned b Raymond Hollingsworth. It was his pride and joy. I loved working at the little daytimer that had a special segment of Amarillo listeners. I was in the ‘main room’ from 5AM to 9AM, Monday through Friday. Mr. Hollingsworth was the General Secretary of the American Quarter Horse Association. One morning, just as I was closing my show, he called to ask if I could drop by his office. He had someone “Whom I would like to meet”. Much to my surprise, there sat Dale Robertson, one of my favorite cowboys. Dale was one of the associations most successful members. We had a great visit. I didn’t interview him for a show, he was rather private.  My only regret is that I didn’t suggest that he find a bit-part for me in one of his productions. Years later, we met again at a celebrity golf tournament at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas. He played. I didn’t. He passed away in 2013, a victim of lung cancer.

I just watched one of his old movies on YouTube. I think that black hat was the same one he wore when we first met, donchaknow. Really.

Like I always say, “Too anointed to be disappointed and Too Blessed to be depressed!”

And that’s what I get from MY box of chocolates.   AMEN
