Marriage break-up is high, yet on decline in America. Back in the ’90’s, American divorce was higher, but there were fewer couples “living together” too. Statistics say “For the unmarried couple who is living together, the likelihood of a breakup is a whopping 62 percent.”
Books flood the library shelves, filled with the why, but the only one that explains the reason did at one time out-sell them all. It has never lost its power. Just its popularity. It just isn’t required reading today. I do not need share the title, at all. The fact that it is free, totally free without ‘shipping and handling’ cost, as a download in scores of translations. I have a favorite that I quote daily. In Ephesians 5, Paul says this about marriage: “22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her”, and it all begins with vows. It requires commitment and it isn’t always easy, but it is certainly worth the effort.
We all have been given the freedom to choose, but statistics don’t lie. To do as we are doing, we have about three-chances-out-of-ten to make a go of it. That’s not good odds and that’s what I get from MY box of chocolates. AMEN
