When a dream dies the heart breaks. My football team will never play another down. The Texas Revolution was more than just another flash-in-the-pan indoor football team, they were “family”. I love football!
As far back as I can remember, Friday, Saturday and Sunday were special during football season. I spent many an
hour in spiritual huddles of Mt. Pleasant Tigers, Dallas Cowboys, Sam Houston Bearkats, Bryan Broncos,Texas Aggies, Bonanza Bengals, UNLV Rebels, Las Vegas Outlaws, Houston Gamblers, Houston Oilers, Las Vegas Sting and Gladiators, Dallas Desperados and Vigilantes, Philadelphia Soul, and San Antonio Commanders, but when I met the team with a “Prayer Huddle”, I had found a dream
come true! As a Fatherʼs Day gift, my son made it possible to be part of a professional indoor football franchise defending champion! I was “Home-At-Last”!
But, something was wrong from the start. Like most day dreams, it was “Smoke and Mirrors”. On-the-field the team played their hearts out in front of a loyal few. As hard as the office team tried, we were always chin deep in money woes. Things looked bleak and then, “Praise God!”, an investor came on board with Deep Pockets and a Plan! We even were welcomed to ‘Jerryʼs Worldʼ for this season, playing our
games at The Star in Frisco! Alas, 4-0 into the season, our deep pocket had a hole in it! The Texas Revolution had just defeated the defending Champs the Duke City Gladiators (I missed the celebration due to an off-field contestation for a free football, which I lost to a Gladiator defensive back, that landed me over-night in the hospital)! To make a long story short……we have forfeited our season.
“Heartbroken” doesnʼt describe how I feel for my “Football Family”. Something was wrong within our “Prayer Huddles”. I pray whatever it was gets right. My God is not mocked. HE says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.” Something or Someone was wrong, donchaknow. God Bless all the Texas Revs as we continue our journey through this “veil of tears”. It just won’t ever again on the ‘Barn Red Field’. The Cannon is empty. And thatʼs what I get from MY box of chocolates. AMEN
