She Walks in Beauty

I’ve shared stories about My Boy, but I’ve been blessed by a bevy of beauties also.My eldest was born in Huntsville, Texas while we were attending Sam Houston State. She was named after her grandmothers and she was beautiful. I realize all parents think their’s is the most beautiful ever, but my “Miss Pretty” was the perfect Gerber Baby. Her grandfather called her “Miss Pretty” also and her grandmothers called her “SuzieQ”. Her first Easter brought about some travail. My mother made a full skirt with crinoline petty coats and pantaloons.( bit overkill, but after all Miss Pretty was our first) I have an old 8mm movie of her riding her bicycle up to our front porch, crying her beautiful eyes out. She did’nt like all that material around her legs. She and her Uncle Frank were inseparable. The very moment we drove up to her Baba’s house on Avenue “M” in Huntsville, Texas, he would already be standing at the curb, ready to grab his “Martha”. She had a very close relationship with most members of the family, however her maternal grandfather was missing from the circle most of his life. Martha Jane Austin married Henry “Hank” Nachtsheim and blessed her family with a precious, intelligent, very quiet lady who is now involved in law enforcement. Martha has retired from a long career in teaching and is now the sole care-giver for her Mother. Today is Martha’s Birthday and it is only fitting that we all raise our voices in a resounding song of celebration. Happy Birthday to You!  Happy Birthday to You! Happy Birthday, dear Martha! Happy Birthday to YOU!  That’s what I get from My Box of Chocolates.   AMEN
