Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. (1 John 4:20-21)
This passage of scripture brings to question, “Who is my brother and who is my sister?”. GOD talks about HIS children and since every human being is HIS creation, does that make every man my ‘brother’ and every woman my ‘sister’? I spent quite a bit of time thinking about this question. We have songs that call everyone, ‘brothers and sisters’. It is MY belief that this thinking is totally wrong. Not all men are my brothers and not all women are my sisters. All men and women are created by GOD, and should be respected as such, but not everyone I meet is necessarily a member of GOD’s family, donchaknow, really. We are all created equal, but not ‘equally yolked’. So, in essence, I can have acquaintances, many of whom are not ‘family’. That can bring about some very serious decisions for a believer. JESUS says that HE is the way to salvation. HE is the only way, so I suppose the only true way to know a brother or sister is to see what falls from their tree. Interesting, to say the least. Discernment is good. That’s what I get from My Box of Chocolates. AMEN
