I am guilty of stretching the truth. All my life I’ve heard “Little White Lies” were not so bad, but reading from the Gospel of James, I come under conviction.
“But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.” – James 5:12
I love story-telling. Here at the Village, there are many of them and I can tell them just as much as my neighbors. Embellishment runs rampant and the result is entertaining, but if what I say is told as truth, then I am in deep trouble. James makes it pretty plain and the fact of the matter is that it’s difficult to overcome the natural man and refine what we say. I am determined to follow this tenet and cut the ‘fat’ out. If the actual facts are not worthy to relate, then let’s move on to something accurate. I certainly do not wish to fall into ‘condemnation’! That’s what I am telling myself and that’s what I get from My Box of Chocolates. AMEN
