Let Go and Let GOD…!

I have been ‘out-of-work’ only twice in my life.  The first time was in 1957. I had been successful in radio and was offered an opportunity to program a new station in Atlanta, Georgia.  After just two weeks, the station sold and I was left with no job and just enough money to pay rent on a room in a boarding house and eat for a few weeks. I tried to find something to do, but had to rely on a Greek family to live.  Finally, there appeared a notice in the paper that the Atlanta Pops Orchestra was holding auditions for vocalists to appear with the group at the Fox Theatre. I “hocked” my watch for a copy of  “Old Man River” and auditioned. I was chosen, along with a lady singing Opera.  I returned the music and got my watch back, but needed a tux to appear at the Fox.  The Greek family paid for my tux and I sang twice with the Pops. I was paid $25 each performance and with that I repaid the family and bought a bus ticket to Texas. The second time was after failing as an insurance salesman, I was hired to glue cushions at a furniture factory in Bryan.  I really enjoyed that brief stint, but was let go because the people who worked with me were ’embarrassed’ to be working with a former teacher who was the low man on the totem pole. I prayed long and hard and even though unworthy, GOD pulled me up and provided my needs.  I enjoyed various careers as HE opened doors for me.  Deep in my heart, I knew to WHOM I owed gratitude and thanks.  Perhaps you, too, are struggling through the darkness of despair. I can assure you that you will “Never Walk Alone” with GOD as your strength. The catch is that you must follow the simple steps to ‘adoption’ into HIS family. Accept the invitation to HIS table through belief and acceptance of of the Greatest Gift known to man. John 3:16 says it all, “For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, so that all who believed would be saved and receive eternal life.”  Then, you have this promise to stand on, forever:

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17(NIV)

It’s time to join the chorus!  That’s what I get from My Box of Chocolates.     AMEN
