What if it were Isaac?

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”  Genesis  22:2(NIV)

This accounting has always challenged me.  I have a son in whom I am well pleased and I am so very pleased that it was Abraham and not me.  My son has blessed and been blessed.  GOD has given me some pretty fine offspring.  As I enter 2016, I have a sobering thought.  Right now, would
GOD hold my son’s hand if the situation were reversed.  What if I was to be the sacrifice?  Isaac bravely accepted what his father asked.  It would be nice if my son would have been so faithful, but, as he raised the knife, would GOD grab his hand?  Would GOD provide another sacrifice?  Now, that is a most interesting question.  Of course, the practice of blood offering through sacrifice is not necessary today.  JESUS ultimate laying down HIS life paid the cost of all sin, past, present and future, for all of us, including this unworthy one. Finally, without that act of supreme, sacrificial LOVE that provided MERCY and GRACE, I wouldn’t be surprised if GOD held HIS hand other than my son’s. ‘Tis a Puzzlement, donchaknow.  Praise GOD for SALVATION!  That’s what I get from My New Year’s Box of Chocolates.   AMEN
