Cornbread and Buttermilk

One of my favorite snacks is Peanut Butter and Crackers. Another is Graham Crackers and Milk. I’ve begun to approve of Key Lime Yogurt with crumbled-up Graham Crackers. It comes very near one of my favorite desserts – Lemon Ice Box Pie. This brings me to a remembrance of my Mother’s favorite late night snack. She loved Cornbread and Buttermilk so much that she could have it every night. Around our house, night time meals were simple snacks and even though I would try her favorite, it just didn’t sit right. She also would cook up a mean dish of calf’s brains and eggs, but that didn’t set me to hankerin’ either. (I doubt there is much consumption of calf’s brains and eggs today, but since folks eat raw fish, well….anything could happen, donchaknow) I have mentioned my displeasure with the decreased size of packaged food today. Graham Crackers and plain Soda Crackers are much smaller but cost more. Cereal boxes are not only flimsy and smaller, they seem to contain less flakes (and those flakes are smaller too) Candy bars are closer to samples today and Hershey’s Kisses??? why they’re hardly there at all. (I just found out that Hershey is offering a ‘Double Kiss with a whole hazlenut inside, just in time for Christmas and Valentines’, but they are still about the size of the orginal Kisses, so what’s so ‘double’ about that?) While I am on the subject of “Bang-for-a-Buck”, what on earth is going on with my cost-of-living increase in my retirement check? Someone is twisting facts and saying there is no cost increase. What? Where? It isn’t where I live! As Madge said, “GOD’s gonna get somebody for all this!” Talk about wading from side-to-side, this one is indeed a ‘rambling’, but that’s what I get from my box of chocolates and I thought I’d just share it with you. It isn’t earth-shattering, but it feels kinda good to take a swipe at stuff that don’t hurt anyone else a bunch. As the man said, “Everything is Beautiful, in it’s own way”! Thank You, GOD for that BEAUTY! AMEN

  1. Jim,

Rambling today is so understandable: it’s evident you are using the original box and half the contents have disappeared so you just needed to add some ‘filler’ items to maintain the box size!

I’m sorry… Well, sort of, anyway….I just couldn’t resist that little tweak!

  2. YUM! I love cornbread and milk (no buttermilk for me) I only put butter on cornbread if it is in a restaurant setting. Frank still thinks I’m crazy to eat my cornbread in a bowl with milk, but to each his own, right? I always thought my cornbread & milk was an Iowa ‘thing’, but guess not!
