All his life, I saw the quality results of the workmanship by the men on my Dad’s crew, simply due to his paying them adequately. He was diligent in paying on the same scale as the unions. His men were loyal and eager to work for him because he was more than fair. The years I spent in broadcast management showed me another side of the equation. Most ‘top-level’ management was more interested in showing a fat profit than compensating the talented peole who made all that success possible. In the gospel of James, chapter 5 the brother of JESUS has this to say about financial advantage. beginning in verse 4:
“4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.[a] 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.” (NIV)
Failure to pay for outstanding labor is cowardice here on earth and makes for tough sledding later. I had worked very hard as a teacher and even though I knew we were not paid as we should have been, that never had a negative effect on our results. I recall my first W-2 from part-time at Channel 3 in Bryan was $400.00 more than that noted on my W-2 from Bryan Public Schools. My first contract for the school year of 1953-54 was $200 less than my paycheck each 2-weeks while performing with the National Tour II at the Desert Inn. If you do the research, you will find it to be most reprehensible as to the wages paid our teachers. Other than the three years ‘on-the-road’, I never felt joy in looking at my paycheck. I tried my best not to dwell on it, but it was always nibbling. If you have experienced being adequately compensated throughout your working life, then you should thank GOD for those who followed HIS rules. If you have practiced those same rules as a manager, you will certainly be blessed as a ‘workman who is not ashamed’ at the foot of GOD’s Throne, donchaknow. I would suggest you take time to study the Gospel according to James. It is a doozy and an excellent guide to Glory. Otherwise, you could be a “Soul in sad exile” and you certainly do not wish for that, donchaknow. As a Post Script, I must point out that the true value of a man cannot be found in his pocket nor in his safe. That in itself makes all the hubbub about Income and Outgo iIllicit. Jehova Jireh!
“Praise GOD from whom all blessings flow!” AMEN
